Business Sweden strengthens its presence in China with renewed investment in its Shanghai office

Business Sweden will officially reopen its newly renovated Shanghai office on 12 October as part of a broader investment in the Chinese market. The milestone marks both a strengthened commitment to China and 30 years of Swedish trade and business promotion presence in the city. The Shanghai office will continue to play a central role in Business Sweden’s operations in both China and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

China remains one of the world's most important markets for Swedish companies. To meet growing demand for market support and advisory services, Business Sweden has expanded its operations in Shanghai through new recruitments, strengthened local expertise and upgraded office facilities.

The newly renovated office is designed to serve as a platform for collaboration between Swedish companies and Chinese stakeholders, with a focus on sectors where Sweden has strong competitive advantages and where international partnerships can accelerate the green and digital transitions.

“China is a strategically important market and innovation hub for many Swedish companies. By strengthening our presence in Shanghai, we can support Swedish businesses in growing and enhancing their competitiveness, while also identifying investments, technologies and partnerships that can contribute to growth and innovation in Sweden. Our ambition is to create long-term value in both directions,” says Jan Larsson, CEO of Business Sweden.

The inauguration will bring together around 70 guests from Swedish and Chinese industry, the public sector and the diplomatic community. Attendees include Jan Larsson, CEO of Business Sweden; Jacob Wallenberg, Honorary Chair of the Mayor of Shanghai’s International Business Leaders Advisory Council (IBLAC); Annika Hahn-Englund, Consul General of Sweden in Shanghai; as well as representatives from Swedish and Chinese companies and authorities.

The event coincides with the 30th anniversary of Business Sweden’s and the Consulate General of Sweden’s presence in Shanghai.

“For three decades, Shanghai has served as an important platform for Swedish companies’ business activities and investments. We are now strengthening our ability to facilitate the next generation of partnerships in innovation, technology and strategic investment, helping to enhance both the international competitiveness of Swedish companies and Sweden’s long-term attractiveness as a destination for investment and collaboration,” says Per Portén, Trade Commissioner of Sweden to China at Business Sweden.
